Choosing the best laptop for your growing business: A smart investment for future success
Running a small or medium business that’s picking up speed? That’s exciting, but it also means your tech needs to keep up. Whether you’re hiring new team members, embracing hybrid work, or just trying to stay ahead of the curve, having the best laptops can make a big difference in how smoothly things run.
But with so many options out there, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this post, we’ll walk you through what to look for in a laptop that’s built for business growth, so you can make a smart choice without the stress.
The key thing to consider when choosing the best laptop
Processor (CPU)
The CPU that we recommend that you should be selecting is an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5, this is great for general business tasks. However, if your team member is using design tools or large data modelling consider an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7, this will give them to speed to be productive and not grumpy. 😂
Processor recommendation: Standard use Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 / Heavy use Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7
RAM – not the sheep – Random Access Memory
The minimum RAM requirement for Windows 11 is 4 GB of RAM, but we recommend at least 16 GB of RAM. This is the perfect amount of RAM for future proofing, multitasking and being really efficient. You don’t want to be annoyed by a slow laptop!
RAM recommendation: Minimum 16 GB of RAM
Storage
There are two types of storage with laptops HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD (Solid State Drives). HDD stores data on magnetic plates and SSD stores data on electronic circuits, with SSD being faster and more reliable. Both come in a variety of sizes, however we recommend at least 512 GB SSD, this will ensure a long life, and that you have enough space for all your files.
Storage recommendation: 512 GB SSD
Screen size
Picking the right screen all depends on how your team member might be using it. If your team member is always on the move, then a slightly smaller screen, which in turn gives you a smaller, lighter laptop might be the right way to go, something like 13.5 inch.
However, if they spend more time in the office or at a desk, even at home, a larger 15 inch screen might be more comfortable for them.
Connections and ports
For super fast connections make sure that your device includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth. USB-C is now the standard connection that you will find on most devices, so make sure that you have at least two of these.
Other preferences to consider:
Battery life, colour, durability, brand and warranty are all things that you will need to consider when selecting the perfect device for you team member, and are very specific to the role that person plays in your business.
