Richard Hochfeld is a long-standing Prestige client who Select Technology have provided day-to-day IT support to for over 15 years.

As their business has grown, their IT estate has grown with it and this was creating some challenges. The server and networking equipment had become very untidy and was spread over two cabinets within the server room. Our Professional IT Services team came to their assistance to consolidate the server equipment, enabling them to continue being streamlined and efficient.

After a thorough investigation and discussion with the Richard Hochfeld team, it was apparent that although there were 2 physical server cabinets on-site one was being used very little. In order to streamline things and minimise equipment in the server room, our team recommended that equipment could be transferred to a single server cabinet and that the other cabinet was removed completely.

The project

When it came to carrying out the project, it was imperative that there was no impact to day-to-day business. Therefore, our team ensured that the work was carried out outside or normal operating hours during the weekend so there was no downtime. Whilst on-site our engineer migrated all business critical services to ensure no downtime, backing up all files using Veeam, before proactively sorting, reorganising and labelling the server cables. It is now not only more accessible, but will also be much easier to maintain.

Positive results

The outcome of this Spring clean means devices are a lot more manageable across the business, with the added bonus that the server room is a clearer, tidier space. This has had an immediate positive effect on day to day productivity and device management, but also has many long term benefits. The overall infrastructure of Richard Hochfeld’s IT environment is more streamlined, efficient and fit for their planned future growth.
